6.1. INTRODUCTION - INFORMATION

LECTURE Kettlebells are traced back to the "monospheres", gymnastics used by ancient Greek athletes and gladiators during Roman times. Much later, around the 17th century, they gained particular fame in Russia, where they became known as "girya", and from there they spread around the world. These are like ball-shaped dumbbells, with a small handle at the top. Although not convinced at first sight that this is something special, they resemble a cannon ball rather than a fitness device, they have fanatical fans and impressive results in fitness everywhere.
